This year is set to be a big growth year for so called ‘smart technologies’ from tooth brushes that spot dirty teeth to fridges that will tell you when there’s a problem with the temperature there certainly are a vast array of devices claiming to be smart becoming available. But are they really all that?

Tis the season to go shopping and this year we will be spending many billions online but have you as a customer thought how safe are you online? As a business are you really doing your best to preserve your customer’s best interests when shopping online?

As with most people working in the IT sector there comes certain times of the year when I will be asked the following question “I’m looking at buy [name/family title] a computer for Christmas, what one should I get?”, so today I’d like to write a little bit of a guide to getting the best computer for the person.

To those who know me personally they’ll know I’m actually somewhat of a rarity in the world. I prefer Microsoft products, I’m typing this on a custom Windows 10 PC, wearing a Microsoft band surrounded by a couple of old phones, a LG e900 and a Lumia 735, aka Windows phones and when I’m not working I do love a game of Halo 5 on my Xbox one. You see where I’m going with this. So it should come as a surprise that I’m currently using an iPhone 5S and looking at buying a 6S.

We live in interesting times, worrying times in fact. The UK Governments decision to force ISPs to log the web usage of every one of their customers is something that I do not believe is the morally right, even in the face of obvious difficulty faced by MI5 etc.
